The Cigna Group Foundation has opened its 2026 Improving Youth Mental Health grant program, inviting nonprofit organizations to apply through March 12, 2026. The initiative responds to rising youth mental health challenges nationwide by supporting community-based programs serving children ages 5 to 18 and the adults who support them, including parents, caregivers, teachers, and coaches.

The program seeks evidence-informed approaches that strengthen youth health outcomes, with an emphasis on social-emotional learning, trauma-informed care, and family–school partnerships. All grant requests this year must total $150,000, reflecting the Foundation’s focus on deeper, more concentrated impact. Eligible nonprofits must operate in at least one of ten priority states, including Connecticut.

Ellie Polack, president of The Cigna Group Foundation, said, "Young people across the country continue to face mental health challenges at levels we've never experienced before, and we view this as a moment to respond with urgency and compassion. By investing in community organizations that specialize in social-emotional learning, trauma-informed care, and family–school partnerships, we can help ensure more kids get the support they need, when they need it."

The grant program is part of a $9 million, three-year commitment to improve youth mental health. To date, more than $7 million has been awarded to 53 nonprofit organizations, reaching over 34,000 youth, families, and professionals in underserved communities.

According to Evernorth Research Institute data, youth mental health conditions have increased significantly since 2018, underscoring the public health urgency behind the initiative.

The Foundation is encouraging applications from organizations serving youth in diverse communities. Program requirements and application materials are available through The Cigna Group Foundation’s website.
