Connecticut Innovations, the state's strategic venture capital arm, has partnered with Mission BioCapital to open applications for the 2026 Platinum Program, a global initiative designed to launch and scale early-stage biotechnology startups, including those based in Connecticut.

Through the collaboration, early-stage biotech founders will gain access to capital, lab infrastructure, and commercialization support. The program is designed to strengthen Connecticut's position as a destination for company formation and growth in the life sciences sector.

Addressing the need for structured early-stage support, Brian Dowd, director of investments at CI, said, "Breakthrough therapies start with bold ideas, but they need the right support to succeed. Mission BioCapital and CI share a common goal with this collaboration – to transform high quality concepts into successful companies in the state. We are giving founders access to the capital, resources, and ecosystem they need to turn scientific innovation into real-world impact—while strengthening Connecticut's role in the future of biotech."

Program awards include up to $500,000 in pre-seed capital, a guaranteed lab bench at a Mission BioCapital-affiliated incubator, drug discovery services, legal and financial counsel, and scientific mentorship. Applications are open through May 15, 2026.

"Since 2022, Mission BioCapital's Platinum Program has helped launch 24 exceptional early-stage founders, including four from the New Haven ecosystem, deploying a total of $11.5 million in pre-seed funding and hands-on support to turn breakthrough ideas into medical breakthroughs," said Jennifer Griffin, Ph.D., Partner, Mission BioCapital. "We're thrilled to have CI joining the Platinum Program."

Connecticut Innovations will support participating companies by connecting them to the state's innovation ecosystem, including research institutions, experienced operators, and follow-on funding opportunities.
