Two medical-surgical units at Yale New Haven Hospital, 4-7 and 9-7, have earned the national PRISM Award from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN), the Premier Recognition in the Specialty of Medical-Surgical Nursing.

AMSN, established in 1991 as the only specialty nursing organization dedicated to medical-surgical nursing, gives the award to units that demonstrate sustained excellence in patient care management, nursing practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership and clinical outcomes, placing them among a national group of teams known for quality, safety innovation and patient-centered care.

At Yale New Haven Hospital, nurses and interdisciplinary teams on units 4-7 and 9-7 coordinate complex care plans, apply evidence-based practices and support patients and families through every stage of a hospital stay, a foundation of teamwork and continuous improvement that helps maintain high standards of care across both units.

Courtney Vose, DNP, RN, chief nurse executive for Yale New Haven Health and chief nursing officer for Yale New Haven Hospital, credited the honor to the nurses' daily commitment. "We are incredibly proud of this national recognition, which speaks to the dedication and passion our nurses bring to their work every day. Their unwavering commitment to quality, safety and compassionate care helps ensure the best possible experience for our patients and families we are privileged to serve."

The distinction gives Yale New Haven Hospital's medical-surgical nursing program a national benchmark, one built on the daily coordination, evidence-based care and interdisciplinary teamwork already underway on units 4-7 and 9-7, reinforcing the hospital's broader commitment to nursing excellence in medical-surgical care.
